Frida Kahlo's The Broken Column
This particular painting by Frida Kahlo, titled "The Broken Column," caught my eye because its subject matter seems to resonate with the physical and emotional pain she felt from her back injury. The tears streaming down her face illustrate the grief she felt while being bedridden for months and feeling as though she were a burden to her family. The nails piercing her body indicate how she physically suffered during her recovery. Frida's ability to express herself through her artwork is a trait I admire dearly.
Frida Kahlo Me and My Parrots
This painting By Frida Kahlo is from 1941. I liked it because she adds details such as the cigarette in her hand and the expression on her face. She mostly painted self portraits and decided to include her parrots in this one. I like how she uses monotone colors mostly, even for the birds that could be very colerful.
Frida Kahlo 1946 The Wounded Deer
The Wounded Deer by Frida Kahlo. I thought this painting was interesting because Frida placed her face on the body of the deer. I also thought it was interesting she used a male deer to place her self on. This painting may show her feeling attacked. Frida did many self portraits of herself in various depictions.
Frida Kahlo
I like this painting by Frida Kahlo because it is a self-portrait with colorful flowers and butterflies coming out from her head. The details of the flowers and the colors are eye-catching. I also like this self-portrait because the flowers coming out from her head is the focal point of the painting. The neutral and warm background makes the colors of the flowers, the butterflies, and her pop out.
The Dream (The Bed)-Frida
This painting by Frida caught my eye because I feel like she is really trying to express her feelings in this painting. It shows her view on death and tells me that she isn't afraid of it. On her body there are green plants which symbolize rebirth. On the skeleton there are bombs which can go off any minute. I also enjoy that the bed looks like it is floating in the sky.

Picasso vs Matisse
It is very difficult to decide which artist out of Picasso's or Matisse's work I prefer more, as they are both very accomplished and skilled painters. If I had to choose one, it would have to be Henri Matisse. I prefer his style over Picasso's, mainly because although he makes the painting his own with how he paints it, it is still very much true to the object or person that he paints. With Picasso, I feel like he changes a good bit with the subject that he paints. Also with Matisse, I noticed that the colors he paints with tend to be more vibrant and his brush strokes look much smoother as a whole.
