Salvador Dali
This painting is really interesting because of how calm the woman looks, when there are fierce looking tigers about to land on her. It's also interesting that the fish is going after the tiger because realistically tigers are much more powerful than fish.
This painting known as “Tigers” by Salvador Dali caught my attention because everything happening in the picture is very eye catching and bizzare. The tigers and naked woman is what first caught ny eye, but when you look closer you see multiple aspects of the painting that doesn’t make a lot of logical sense. You can see a giant pomegranate, a fish eating a tiger, and an elephant with extremely long legs; all of these are things you don’t typically find in real life. The leaping of the tigers gives action to this painting, and makes the painting more interesting.
I thought that this painting by Dali was pretty interesting and usual because the metals looked as though it was melting. The ants on the watch indicated it was rotten and that to me seemed impossible, how can a watch be rotten. Dali wanted to disrupt the reality of things and he wanted the viewers to think outside of the norm. So within this painting, time goes out of the window, there isn't any relevance of time.
The Enigma of Hitler (1939) by Salvador Dali
Dali explained The Enigma of Hitler was an interpretation of several dreams he had about Hitler - one had shown Neville Chamberlain's umbrella turning into a bat - a symbol from his childhood that filled him with fear.Dali once described his obsession with Hitler to André Parinaud as a strange homoerotic fantasy:
"I often dreamed of Hitler as a woman. His flesh, which I had imagined whiter than white, ravished me... There was no reason for me to stop telling one and all that to me Hitler embodied the perfect image of the great masochist who would unleash a world war solely for the pleasure of losing and burying himself beneath the rubble of an empire; the gratuitous action par excellence that should indeed have warranted the admiration of the Surrealists."
Salvador Dali - Christ of Saint John of the Cross (1951)
I really like the view and angle that Dali used to portray the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is unlike any other that I have seen and really showcases how much Dali wanted to be different and put his own touch on whatever he creates. Usually the view that is chosen when portraying the crucifixion is to have it seen from strait on which I find kind of boring. I very much prefer how Dali's rendition differs.
Galatea of the Spheres
This is a painting by Salvatore Dali, done in 1952. I like this painting because it catches the eye. This was a serious of Salvatores Wife. He did this piece of his wife and spheres arranged in a curious way. I thought this was a very interesting piece. Dali was also interested in DNA and that is why he painted the spheres in a curious pattern.
The Burning Giraffe-Salvador Dali
The artwork that I decided to choose is the Burning Giraffe by Salvador Dali. I chose this artwork because it was intriguing, the giraffe burning in the background is something that caught my eye right away. The two tall humans are wrapped up in teal clothes are extremely tall, one is holding a strap of cloth, and one has storage drawers coming from the thigh. I think that it is a symbol for humans always taking unneeded things from nature. It's interesting that this was painted right before his exile from the United States from 1940 to 1948.
Dali- Landscape with Butterflies
Salvador Dali painted this painting called 'Landscape with Butterflies' in 1956. I really enjoy this painting because it has a 3D sense to it. The canvas to the left has great depth in the picture, and on the edge of the canvas. I like the way he uses primary colors all throughout the painting. The butterflies have great detail, it shows that they're in flight yet there is no motion. Very pretty, I like this painting a lot.
Salvador Dali The Melting Watch 1954
The Melting Watch (Soft Watch at the Moment of the First Explosion)
by Trevor Hurst
by Trevor Hurst
Salvador Dali painted this piece known as The Melting Watch in 1954. The main idea of through that he was trying to portray was the presence of a dreamlike quality and ghostly appearance to accentuate the mysterious and unexplainable nature of the painting. When I look at this painting I am reminded about the concept of time and how it is something that many try to conquer and master but time itself is always something that slips through a person's fingers, always fleeting, in a constant state of motion. Withing the painting the watch is slowly melting with the number flying away. wth a portion of the block fading away revealing the background that it was trying to hide. The watch is the main focus of the painting as the gold color is in contrast to the shading, to outline the objects with the painting. The style, earth tone colors, and the emotions he was able to create brings the painting to life.
Salvador Dali - Bull face 1968-1970
Salvador Dali was a Spanish painter who was known for his influential exploration of subconscious imagination. In this collection he paints women which are a depiction of his wife who hated bullfighting. His medium of choice was oil on canvas. This optical illusion portrait of his face but was created from a bull which is the bottom portion of his face and an angel dressed in white holding a scale with eyeballs which is the top portion of his face. The bull is looking at a Matador standing on a rock. I really like this portrait. The way he uses the elements to create his face is genius ! The scale means justice most likely for all bullfighters and those who love that game.
Salvador Dali
I like this painting because it looks like real life. It caught my eye because it's not a traditional painting and it is all one color. It was painted in 1936 and its a painting for the female body.
Egg born by Salvador Dali
I chose this art piece by Salvador Dali because of many reasons. I like how the yolk is the sun and can somewhat be related to one another because the yolk is what gives the baby chick nourishment and the sun to us give us nourishment. The colors they use are complement one anther. this artwork also reminds me of artwork from a bible or religious artwork. The ripples he uses in the sky I really enjoy because it makes the sun look like its shining everywhere.
young woman at a window
Salvdaor Dali painted young woman at a window in 1925 using oil on paper.
Dali uses his sister, Ana Maria, as a subject in his painting. I picked this painting
becuase of how simple it is. This painting is just a girl looking off think about anything.
I also pivked this painting because Salvdaor Dali created this while he was younger

"The Anthropomorphic Cabinet" Salvator Dali
This piece called "The Anthropomorphic Cabinet" by Salvator Dali stood out to me because I thought it was really interesting how he incorparated the cabinets into the womens body. This painting is oil on wood. He got his inspiration for this painting from Sigmund Freud after he had read a novel that explained the study of unconscious mind. The study explained that the small cabinets are combined to form body parts. Overall, I really liked this painting I found it to be unique and I just really enjoyed the concept of it.

Self Portrait Salvador Dali
I like this painting by Salvador Dali because it looks as though the subject is looking at the viewer. I enjoy the vibrant colors of the grapes in the corned. I also like the landscape in the background of the water and cliffs. I also like how he made depth with the way the water travels into the distance.
The Face of War (1940-1941)
I really like this painting done by Dali. This painting was done to depict the horrors and misery that comes from war. The face is withered like that of a corpse and has the expression of what looks like utter misery. And that theme is repeated over and over again inside the eyes and the mouth. The background places a huge role in it as well. The skull is set in a barren desert landscape which adds a whole other layer of sadness and misery to the entirety of the painting.
Dali's The Face of War
Dali's "Face of War" piqued my interest because of its haunting and terrifying subject matter. Dali's techniques for this art piece is a perfect analogy for the figurative and literal destruction that war brings. The terrified expression conveys how disturbing and traumatic war can be to the human psyche. The skulls embedded in his eyes and mouth share the same horror he experiences, this time because death is inevitable and is closer to reaching you in a violent environment. This painting is compelling, and I admire its boldness.

Sleep, Dali
This painting stood out to me because he incorporated a face into something that does not have a face; this painting focuses on ideas of sleep and the subconscious mind as portrayed. I'm guessing that Dali was interested in that type of stuff, so much so it gave him an idea of a painting to do.
Duchamp's Bicycle Wheel
This piece of art by Marcel Duchamp stood out to me because it is not a painting and is instead, a ready-made sculpture of objects combined together. The combination seems off but I enjoy how strange this artwork looks and makes one go "What does this mean?"
Marcel Duchamp
Nude Descending Staircase
I like the dull colors used and the cubism that is used here. I like how he painted a timelapse.

Portrait of Chess Players-Marcel Duchamp
The painting I selected was Portrait of Chess Players by Marcel Duchamp. I selected this painting because at first it was hard to see the people within the painting, however once my eye recognized them it was very interesting how the artist made out the people. The edges and details he uses to construct the painting is outstanding. I also like that this piece of art is connected to his life, he really enjoyed playing chess and eventually gave up painting for period of time in order to play chess. I also like how the person facing the viewer seems to be thinking about his next move on the board
To Be Looked at (from the Other Side of the Glass) with One Eye, Close to, for Almost an Hour, (1918) by Marcel Duchamp
I basically liked the name of this painting and according to Marcel Duchamp looking through the convex lens "for almost an hour" is supposed to have a hallucinatory effects on the viewer. As the view they is smallen, flipped and otherwise distorted. Duchamp was also delighted at the fact that the glass broke while it was being transported, welcoming the mechanics of chance into the work.

Etant Donna

2/25/2020
Marcel Duchamp pained this piece of art in 1946. I chose this particular piece of his works because the first thing that caught my eye was the lamp that was resting suddenly in the corpse's hand. through the pinhole effect, the primary object that first captures the viewer's eyes in the body of the woman lying in the bushes creating a contrast with the scenery behind her. The attention to detail throughout the painting is captivating as it brings this painting to life. Although the women may or may not be dead in this painting, it reminds open to interpretation adding more depth to the nature and concept of the painting. I can understand how Etant Donna can be considered one of Duchamp's major works.
Self-Portrait in Profile
I thought this painting was interesting because it is a painting of Marcel himself. The painting is made up of origami paper that Marcel tore himself. He tore 137 pieces of paper and then mounted each one onto a velvet-covered paperboard.
Marcel Duchamp- Fountain
Marcel made this sculpture called 'fountain' in 1917. I chose this sculpture because I don't think this is art work in my opinion. He took something that's already made, took it out of its functional purpose, and put his name on it. I do not think that is art, and I do not like this piece. He didn't paint it different colors, or try to make it look different. He just put it on a platform and painted 'R. Mutt 1917' on it. That's like taking somebody else's paper, paraphrasing a sentence or two, and putting your name on it.
Marcel Duchamp
This particular piece from Duchamp interests me even with its seemingly extreme simplicity. Although it may just be from the underside of a table it looks like, but suspended in mid-air you can make it out to be an octopus or even a jellyfish floating and swimming around in water. I find it incredibly creative that Duchamp saw the weirdness in the form of this object, and how intriguing that form can be on its own.
Marcel Duchamp
Marcel Duchamp was a French American painter, sculpture, and chest player. This piece by Marcel was called the Fountain, done in 1917. This was a urinal up right signed and dated R.Mutt 1917. This challenged the definition of art. I think this is cool because this is art even though it is just a urinal singed and dated. It makes you explore the idea of art and extent to the definition of art.
Marcel Duchamp
I chose this piece of art because it looks abstract and it is hard to make out what happening in this painting. The colors are very neutral and bland and I'm not sure if I like this painting or not. It looks like its a woman sitting but the body is kinda distorted. The color that is used is shades of blue and that is the only pop of color seen in the painting.
Marcel Duchamp
Marcel Duchamp painted Portrait of a chess player in 1911 using oil on canvas. The original title of this painting was Portrait de joueurs d'echecs. I picked this painting because even though there is a lot of patterns in this painting Duchamp still made the painting flow and make sense.

Marcel Duchamp
This piece of art by Marcel Duchamp is very unique. There is clearly a face in this painting, it looks like the geometric shapes around the face could be hair. I love the dimensional shapes in the background, it gives the art character. To me it looks like there is a staircase in the bottom left corner.
Marcel Duchamp
This painting known as "Chess Players" created by Marcel Duchamp is a very abstract piece depicting a chess game. When looking closely, you can see what appears to be two people with their hands to their faces. Although this painting is overall various shades of brown, the few blue-ish hues throughout help define the chess players from the rest of the painting. I liked this painting because you need to observe it for a little to grasp what the painting shows.

Marcel Duchamp "Train Painting"
This painting by Marcel Duchcamp "Train Painting" stood out to me because I was confused by what it was a painting of. I honestly am not the biggest fan of his work. His style of work is extremly unique and different. Personally this painting is not pleasing to the eye.
Portrait of Chess Players (1911)
This cubism piece done by Marcel Duchamp really stood out to me. By taking a quick look at this, it looks like a bunch of random colors and shapes bunched together. But if you take a step back and really analyze this piece, you start to see the little nuisances melding together to create the two chess players. This is a brilliant piece of work by Duchamp. For him to be able to envision this piece and execute this style the way he did is truly a masterpiece.

Given: 1. The Waterfall, 2. The Illuminating Gas. Marcel Duchamp
I chose this painting because initially I didn't notice the woman laying nude. I enjoy the foreground of the piece with the calm nature despite the woman laying there almost lifeless. This image almost looks to be depicting a crime scene with the way the woman is positioned. This painting also appears like a photo and not a painting.
"Tu m" by Duchamp
This painting really stood out to me because I honestly have no idea what it is. The title is supposed to hint at Duchamp's mood and the painting is supposed to represent safety pins stuck through a bear. There is also a human hand included in the painting. I think this is a really interesting piece of art and symbolizes something with greater meaning to the artist.
My Grandparents, My Parents, and Me
I chose this painting My Grandparents, My Parents, and Me because it shows her family history but in a very weird manner. The middle couple is her parents and within her moms dress shows pre mature Frida. Towards the left of her mother is her parents, to the right of her father is his parents. There is a ribbon connecting both of the grandparents that is being held by young Frida. The young Frida is also standing in a home surrounded by the desert. I assume this is her childhoods home in Mexico.

Frida Kahlo
I chose this painting by Frida because the landscape details are amazing. It looks like there's a vertical line down the middle with two different time zones on each side of the painting. The left side is morning or afternoon lighting, and the right is evening lighting.

Frida
I like the setting of this painting where she put her face on a wounded deer that is in a forest of dead or broken branched trees.
Freida : What the Water Gave Me
This oil painting by Frida Khalo was created in 1938. She drew a unreasonable juxtaposition of her reflection of what her life had become. Frida was very honest in her drawing and she never added or took away from what she truly saw. This art pieces depicts her feet in the water along with a building sitting on a volcano and a naked women drowning along with a dress just floating and what maybe appears to be her parents alongside a naked women laying in bed with another women holding her hair. This drawing is breathtaking.
The Two Fridas 1939
The Two Fridas by Frida Kahlo

February 13, 2020
Frida painted this piece of art in 1939 and was titled the Two Fridas. in this painting, there are two Frida that is connected to one another by the heart. As it can be seen these are tow different versions of Frida as one is in a white dress with a cut open heart and a pair of scissors that cut one of the veins connected to the heart bleeding on to her dress, soaking it in blood while the other Frida is dressed in colorful bright and earth colors with a whole heart in perfect health. This contrast between the tow Fridas reveals the painters two different personalities: one that appears to the public to be in calm composure while a complete heart while the other is distressed and in pain with a broken heart being incomplete. The background is a storm gray cloud-filled sky that expresses inner turmoil and pain adding more depth and emotion to the painting.
Frida Kahlo- the broken column
Frida Kahlo painted this painting called 'The Broken Column' in 1944. She painted this painting shortly after she had spinal surgery to correct her back problems due to a car accident she was in when she was 18 years old. I like this painting because it shows all the pain that she was in, all over her body. Whether it was the nails penetrated all over her skin, or if it's the column that holding her head together. She doesn't have a tear, or a grimace on her face. She is standing up tall, with a strong facial expression. It's very empowering seeing her unfazed face not flinch of hurt with all of the surgical imperfections.
Without Hope Frida Kahlo
I chose this painting by Frida Kahlo because of everything that happened in her past. When she got into the accident she basically lost all hope. But she never lost hope in her artwork. i love the red and oranges she uses in this artwork. i also like how there is something like two suns I believe. This painting is sort of representing her inner feelings and he thoughts about life during that time.
Without Hope
I decided to pick this painting of Frida's because it represents a very important part and time of her life. It shows her mindset at the time because of her injuries. She was suffering from a lack of appetite due to her serious injuries and she was prescribed a forced diet by her doctor. This painting also shows that even though Frida may not have seen the light at the end of the tunnel, she still made it through the hardest point of her life.
Vivia la Vida Watermelons
This is a painting by Frida Kahlo called Vivia La Vida. This means Long Lived life. I like this painting because it reminds me of the summer. The colors in this are vibrant, I like the blue sky background. I also like how she carved the name of the painting along with her name into the watermelon. I think this painting is very fun and eye catching.
Girl with Death Mask (1938)
I found this piece by Frida Kahlo very interesting and eerie as well. This is supposedly a self-portrait she painted in 1938 depicting herself at 4 years of age. She is seen wearing a mask customarily worn during Mexico's celebration of the "Day of the Dead." The little girl in the painting is holding a yellow blossom which resembles the tagete's bloom, which are put onto the graves of their relatives during the festival of the "Day of the Dead." The painted tiger mask sitting next to the little girl is there to depict a similar mask that hangs on the wall of the dining room in Frida's house.
Self Portrait with Monkey Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo painted Self Portrait with Monkey in 1940. I picked this painting because I thought her story behind the painting was interesting. She chooses yellow for madness, sickness, and fear instead of happiness. she also puts a red ribbon in her hair that wraps around her neck to represent claustrophobia. The money in the painting had his hand also, wrapped around her neck represent that she is being choked. The monkey also represents a close family member.
Tree of Hope, Remain Strong by Frida Kahlo
This painting known as "Tree of Hope, Remain Strong" was created by Frida Kahlo in 1946. This painting first caught my eye due to the strange background, featuring two moons and a cracking ground. This painting seems to be referencing Frida's back injury, with lacerations on the woman's back and Frida hold what appears to be a back brace. This painting represents Frida giving herself courage through this painful and hopeless experience, and helping herself push through her adversities.
Moses (1945) by Frida Kahlo
I honestly picked this painting because I can stare at it for hours and keep seeing something new. So much is going on in this, the symbolism, the depiction, the individual metaphors and the emotional reaction. This painting was drawn as a miniature mural, maybe as a result of influenced by her famous husband Diego Rivera, who is famous as a muralist . In this painting, in the center is an abandoned baby which has a third eye in his forehead. This baby's face resembles Diego Rivera and Frida always paint him with the third eye of wisdom in her other paintings. The birth is under a sun flanked by heroes, gods, other human beings and the hands of death. In the foreground there is a baby in the conch and which is spurting waters into the shell. Frida referred that as "symbol of love". There are branches extending out from the dead tree trunks. In many of her other paintings Frida use this to refer the life and death cycle in the world.
