Canal du Midi -1898
When it comes to discussing Matisse and Picasso, I would have to first state that they are both talented artists that did an excellent trying to express their interpretation and perspective of the world through their artworks. Although they were both artists of the same time they can be described as polar opposites in the sense that Matisse is more of a traditional painter that focussed on figurative works with landscapes and women, while Picasso is Cubist whose works are violent abstraction foregoing traditional painting methods. However, these two painters did share the same sense of discovery that can be found in each of there works captivating people who viewed their art. Between these two artists, I would have to say that I tend to prefer Matisse over Picasso because of how he was able to change the landscapes with brighter colors that brought another dimension of depth that elevated the nature of the subject. Illustrating a new perspective of life with smooth and soothing strokes of color.
