Frida Kahlo- the broken column

Frida Kahlo painted this painting called 'The Broken Column' in 1944. She painted this painting shortly after she had spinal surgery to correct her back problems due to a car accident she was in when she was 18 years old. I like this painting because it shows all the pain that she was in, all over her body. Whether it was the nails penetrated all over her skin, or if it's the column that holding her head together. She doesn't have a tear, or a grimace on her face. She is standing up tall, with a strong facial expression. It's very empowering seeing her unfazed face not flinch of hurt with all of the surgical imperfections.
