The Face of War (1940-1941)

I really like this painting done by Dali. This painting was done to depict the horrors and misery that comes from war. The face is withered like that of a corpse and has the expression of what looks like utter misery. And that theme is repeated over and over again inside the eyes and the mouth. The background places a huge role in it as well. The skull is set in a barren desert landscape which adds a whole other layer of sadness and misery to the entirety of the painting.
