Girl with Death Mask (1938)

I found this piece by Frida Kahlo very interesting and eerie as well. This is supposedly a self-portrait she painted in 1938 depicting herself at 4 years of age. She is seen wearing a mask customarily worn during Mexico's celebration of the "Day of the Dead." The little girl in the painting is holding a yellow blossom which resembles the tagete's bloom, which are put onto the graves of their relatives during the festival of the "Day of the Dead." The painted tiger mask sitting next to the little girl is there to depict a similar mask that hangs on the wall of the dining room in Frida's house.
